So you’ve decided to Elope in the beautiful city of La Jolla, California, a beauiful seaside village north of San Diego. They’re known for their relaxed, luxury feel to their downtown, and the epic coastline. It’s a perfect place for your Elopement or Intimate Wedding.
Since elopements have increased in the last few years, every photographer has a different definition of what they mean, and many promote themselves as “adventure photographers.”
You’ll see lots of amazing photographs of wedding couples on breathtaking vistas, photographers hiking up steep slopes, and lots of hiking boots! Then you’ll also find photographers who specialize in more urban or city elopements, sometimes called “pop-up ceremonies.
You’ve decided an elopement is right for you, and it’s all systems go! Now comes the part I hope you have so much fun with; building your big dream.
My best advice? Lay it all out there. You don’t get many days in your life that you can totally design, so why not see where your imagination can take you?! I can’t think of a more epic date night than talking about that over a glass of wine.
Elopements can definitely be planned in less time than traditional weddings. Some people plan for many months out, depending on things like favorite time of year or travel needed.
The answer to how soon is as soon as you decide that an elopement is right for you! Some of my clients have a clear vision of where and when; others want guidance. No matter where you are, I can help you kick-start or refine your plans.
Let’s start with the basics:
In La Jolla, the summers are short, warm, arid, and clear and the winters are long, cool, and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 50°F to 77°F and is rarely below 44°F or above 85°F.
La Jolla, and the surrounding San Diego county/area. Some of my favorite locations: WindandSea Beach, Torrey Pines State Park, Sunset Cliffs, La Jolla Cove, Balboa Park (in San Diego). There are so many amazing locations, and even Venues depending on the vibe you want!
Vendors:
An amazing team of elopement vendors is a must for any elopement – they’ll be able to guide you through the process and take the weight of planning off your shoulders! But wait, Ashley. We’re eloping! Do we really need vendors? The answer is a resounding, YES! You deserve to have your day be a testament to who you are as a couple. You need an elopement photographer who is more than that, and understands how to make your day about you. You need someone who understands what type of experience you want, and the styling of it. Do you want a simple ceremony? Do you want to set up an arbor and benches? The sky is the limit when it comes to planning your elopement day, and that’s where your vendors come into play. Don’t worry though. I know some of the best ones around.
Planners:
Many couples choose to elope because they don’t want the stress of planning a big wedding – and a great elopement planner is an amazing investment, as they’ll take care of all the things you don’t need to worry about. So all you have to do on your elopement day is relax, have fun, and be in love. Easy, right?

Officiants:
Photos and videos are truly the only thing you’ll have to remember all the little moments of your elopement – you’ll be surprised (and a little bit sad) how quickly those memories fade away, and having a video to look back on will be something you treasure forever.
Photographer:
You deserve to have the full story of your elopement day told – from getting ready to watching the sunset together, from beginning to end. Luckily, I know an elopement photographer who’s ready to capture the one of a kind elopement experience you deserve. Wink, wink, it’s me – your photographer and guide to the perfect elopement in California.
